The "Special Write-in Absentee Ballot" is a blank, write-in ballot sent well in advance of the General Election, to be used only if special conditions apply. Some states will provide this type of ballot upon request.
Some reasons for requesting a "special write-in absentee ballot" include: living in a hostile area due to military service, living in a remote area, and the inability to count on normal mail delivery within the period provided for regular absentee ballots. To request this type of ballot, you can add a written statement on the Addendum page that will print when you use the Register to Vote/Absentee Ballot service. Here is an example of such a statement: "Due to living in a extremely remote area of the world that precludes normal mail delivery, I cannot vote an absentee ballot during the normal voting period. I request a special write-in absentee ballot."
